Mystery Debunked

To what extent does the historical context surrounding the documents further the understanding of which events and circumstances referred to within and surrounding the documents are true, and which have been skewed and or falsified?

To answer our research question, we have determined that the majority of the events and people referred to within the document are indeed real. The context surrounding the time period, including the Hundred Years’ War, the civil wars in England and France, as well as the newly developing concept of witchcraft were all very real phenomenons of the 14th and 15th centuries.

Additionally, Joan of Arc was a real, and important historical figure, helping to solve some of the issues between the French and English kings, and aiding in bringing the Hundred Years’ War to a close. Referring to the document given, it was determined that the impersonator of Joan was a female from a regular village just like Joan. She took on Joan’s name and personality and performed miracles to convince the people of France that she was Joan reborn. She was able to convince Joan’s brothers that she was their sister reborn. However, she was simply another woman with incredible drive and strength. She died in Joan’s name as Jehanne du Lys and nobody was able to prove that she wasn’t the authentic Joan.
